ELK Fighters

Six champions, six epics, and sixty decisions a second.

Soundiata Keïta of Mali, Amina of Zazzau, Yennenga of the Mossi, Tomoe Gozen of the Genpei War, Cú Chulainn of the Ulster Cycle and Gilgamesh of Uruk. The names, the polities and the deeds come from sources you can go and read. Every weapon, every armour plate and every frame of animation is invented, and the game says so.

怎么玩

  1. Choose, and be given an opponent

You pick your champion. The server picks theirs, from the seed it issues you — because a player who chose their own opponent would choose the one they beat, and the score scales with the difficulty the server also sets.

  2. Win the space before the exchange

Every weapon has a far edge and a near one. Tomoe's naginata owns the space in front of her and is useless inside it; Amina's short thrust is the opposite. Most of a round is deciding which of you is standing where.

  3. Spend the meter, or keep it

Landing hits builds the meter, and the meter buys one move that ends conversations. Holding it is a threat; spending it is a commitment, and the recovery on a special that misses is the longest in the game.

Tomoe Gozen Killing Uchida Saburo Ieyoshi at the Battle of Awazu no Hara

Tomoe Gozen at the battle of Awazu, in a Japanese print. She is the only fighter on this roster that a surviving artwork depicts in action.

Made around 1750, roughly six hundred years after Tomoe Gozen lived. It is an artist’s depiction, not a portrait, and nothing records what she looked like.
